Norwegian brand Heymat and online magazine + media platform Sight Unseen share a lot in common. Beyond their love of modern design, the two companies are founded by female entrepreneurs who make it an intentional effort to uplift and celebrate their fellow women designers. In this exclusive collaboration of indoor mats collectively called The Iconic Women Collection, Sight Unseen’s founders Jill Singer and Monica Khemsurov pay tribute to female talents of the 20th century, layering their iconic designs to create new compositional styles that will ground the entry points of a home with color and shapes.
Singer and Khemsurov did more than just collage together two abstract forms. “They exposed various perspectives and viewpoints to craft new shapes that capture the essence of pioneering designers, then worked with our in-house creative team to flatten them into abstractions in either two or three solid colors,” explains Sonja Djønne, CEO and founder of Heymat. The results were two designs in three colorways and two sizes.
Unlike big box stores, these indoor mats adhere to industrial-grade standards and are made with high-quality, 100% nylon. The upper surface is soft underfoot while the nitrile rubber backing ensures the mats stay put and your floors stay dry. In fact, the only time you’ll want to move them is to rotate the designs or give them a wash, in which case you can simply run them in your household washing machine on hot (up to 140°F).
